Thundering with the July Moon

On Saturday 7/1, we enter into an “8” Universal Month, inspiring personal power, courage and fortitude...

And igniting incredible opportunities for manifestation and growth. 8 is often referred to as the “paymaster” because it rewards you in direct proportion to the amount of effort and clear-headed focus you invest under its influence, whether it’s for a day, a month or a year.

The number 8, more than any other number, puts the emphasis in the areas of career, business, finances and authority. However, as with many other single-digit numbers, the shape of the number reflects it’s most important attribute, and in the case of the number 8, that is, first and foremost, balance. The 8 is the great Karmic equalizer, a force that just as easily creates as it destroys. When the 8 comes knocking, you can be assured that you will reap what you've sown.

The 8 balances the material and immaterial worlds. At its best, it is as spiritual as it is materialistic. The spiritual side of the 8 is practical, realistic and intelligent. It knows the difference between make-believe and genuine spiritual realizations. On the material plane, it is focused on results, often in the form of money, yet does not care much about money for the sake of money. It is not greedy, it sees money as a tool, not an end-result. It is generous and willing to take risks. People with strong 8s in their charts often make and lose fortunes a couple of times during their life. They never consider bankruptcy a reason to slow down or feel sorry, but, rather, come out stronger and more success-oriented than before.

Some of the more recognizable traits of the 8 are drive, ambition, authority, efficiency, organization, management, discipline and control. The 8 is goal-oriented, focused, has good judgment, can discriminate and is practical, a realist. Its closest relative is the 1 as both numbers are powerful, have strong leadership skills, are unquestionably masculine and will not shy away from a confrontation. However, where the 1 lacks diplomatic skills and an understanding of human nature -- more typically the traits of the 2 -- the 8 has those abilities as well, which is perhaps the most important reason the 8 tends to do well in business and in authority roles (the military and law enforcement draw a lot of 8s).

This expansive 8 energy will come to an explosive head in just a few short days on Sunday, 7/9 as the magnificent “Thunder” Full Moon takes over the sky.

This Full Moon is more powerful than most for many reasons...

  • Known as the “Thunder” Full Moon in the ancient Farmer’s Almanac, this lunation will ignite your majestic power, ambition and strength...

  • It takes place at 17 degrees (1 + 7 = 8), adding an extra dose of ‘8’ influence that will heighten your ambitions and drive even further...

  • And it all goes down on an 8 Universal day (7/9/2017 = 7 + 9 + 1 = 17; 1 + 7 = 8), unlocking a powerful 8/8/8 portal of infinite abundance.

Woah. If this Full Moon wasn’t ruled by Capricorn, a grounded and stable Earth Sign, we’d say you better head for the hills and take cover because it’s about to go down... But luckily, the surefooted and persistent Billy Goat is here to guide you reliably through this intense triple 8 lunation...

On July 9, those who are blessed with a night of clear skies during the stormiest month of the year will be able to see the Full Thunder Moon dominate the sky alongside Saturn.

The moon will be completely full at 12:07 a.m. EDT (0407 GMT) on Sunday (July 9). For observers on the U.S. East Coast, the nearly full moon will rise about 4 hours before the moon reaches peak fullness on Saturday evening. Saturn will rise in the east a little sooner, about 6:30 p.m. local time.

Situated in the constellation Sagittarius, the full moon will appear just below Aquila (The Eagle) and above Nunki (Sigma Sagittarii), a medium-bright star of magnitude 2.3. As usual, during the Northern Hemisphere's summer, the moon is above the horizon for a relatively short time — only about 10 hours — reaching a maximum altitude of 29.3 degrees above the horizon in New York City on the night of the Full Thunder Moon.

This time is also known as the Full Buck Moon (because this is when the velvety antlers of young bucks emerge) and the Full Hay Moon, a time of growth and bounty. Perhaps in your own life you’re about to experience the flowering of a project you have worked a long time to develop. Or maybe you’ve been lying low, contemplating changes you want to make at work or in your relationships. Like the appearance of new antlers, your desire for change is a signal: you’re not the same you that you were last year. New powers want to emerge.

A summer thunderstorm may not clear the air in your town, but be on the lookout for something that brings new clarity and vibrancy to your world. The Full Thunder Moon can startle and snap us to attention with its clap and clatter. Illuminations may arrive, like the downpour of rejuvenating, cooling rain. Drink up the inspiration, like the flowers, trees and grass soaking up the rain. You may even experience a kind of wild baptism.

To honor this Moon, make a joyful noise and hold a full moon ritual.

Full Moon Ritual

The Full Moon is an opportune time of the month for purging rituals to take place. The light the full moon illuminates those things that are interfering with our spiritual advancements. Once we have become enlightened to ways that are blocking us, the easier it is “to let go”. The full moon ritual is for releasing or purging the things in our lives that no longer serve us such as addictions to food, emotional vampires, drama, unhappy jobs, relinquishing suffering involved in hurtful relationships, discharging physical and emotional pains, etc.

Full Moon Purging Preparation

Create a sacred space and arrange a time to perform the ceremony (preferably at nighttime and outdoors under the moonlight). Write down on separate slips of paper the things you want to release or change. Supply suggestions: fire proof Calderon or cooking pot to toss the burning paper inside, candle with matches or lighter, crystal (moonstone) and smudge sticks for cleansing and any other tools that you like to use. Be creative and make it fun.

Full Moon Purging

Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense. Invite your guides, angels, masters, or teachers to be at your side throughout the ceremony. Light one or more candles. Look to the skies. Breathe in the night air. One by one, read out loud the words you have written on each slip of paper. Set your intention to release the item/addiction/attitude from your life. Set it to fire and place it in the Calderon. If you are doing this ritual with a group of others take turns reading your words. If these things are too personal to read out loud, read them silently to yourself. Just remember… our words have power. Saying – “Be Gone” audibly and loudly can be very freeing. Go ahead, howl at the moon if you’ve a mind to. Have some fun! Thank the spirits. Be safe. Put out the fire. A second notebook will be used as a manifestation scrapbook where you paste in pictures or catalog clippings of items that you want to manifest. This is a fun project so enjoy yourself. You will soon be amazed how these things begin to find their way into your life once you start this process.

Rededicating your New Moon Intentions

The new moon is a perfect time to revisit what it is you have let go and bring in the things that you you need. Take the time to write out your wants and add it to your ritual.

A FULL MOON RELEASE RITUAL

What you need: pen, paper, matches, candle, two small bowls, water

If possible do this outside under the Full Moon, connecting directly with Mother Nature and the Moon’s energies.

If you cannot be outside, find a quiet place indoors.

  1. Clear your energy. Imagine standing under a silver waterfall and allow all negative and non-serving energies to be washed away.

  2. Create a sacred space. Find a quiet place to sit, declutter and clean, place crystals or other special items around you.

  3. Light the candle, Fill one small bowl with water – place both in front of you, along with the other empty bowl.

  4. Take a few deep breaths, center yourself and then begin to write on the piece of paper what you wish to release from your life, what limiting beliefs you want to be free from, what no longer serves you or what you want to let go of.

  5. When you have finished your list, sign and date the page.

  6. Breathe deep into your heart and declare “I now let this go. And it is so.” Then place one corner of the piece of paper over the candle allowing the flame to light your page (throw the page into the empty bowl as it burns) watching the flames consume what you are releasing, the smoke taking your intention to the Universe. Please note: if your piece of paper struggles to light or burn, please consider if you are really ready to let this go! Only when you are willing to let go will the page burn – the faster the flames, the more willing you are to let it go.

  7. Then place your hands in the bowl of water. Signifying cleansing of the old and opening to the new.

  8. Remove your hands from the water and take a deep breath. Sit in silence for a moment. You may want to keep your candle burning for a while as you sit, allowing inspiration to spark.

This is only a suggestion of a ritual. Use your intuition to guide you. You may just want to sit with a lit candle and not burn your page. You may want to have a shower or jump into the ocean as part of a cleansing ritual. You may want to meditate on what to let go of rather than writing it down.

Go with what works for you and what you feel comfortable with. It all comes down to intention. As long as your stay centered in why you are doing things in a certain way, the results will follow as you intended them to.

Celebrate the energy at this time with some form of ritual so that you ensure that you enter the second half of 2017 with a BANG!
